This St George’s Day, Right Mess is inviting artists, writers and performers to look at what our sense of identity and belonging means in an age of rising nationalism. How much are we defined by the places we come from? And how does that identity interact with politics?

Right Mess believe in hearing as wide a range of voices as possible, and we believe politically engaged theatre needs to listen as well as preach. To that end, we bring together artists with charities, experts and those with personal experience to make work that addresses the problems we face as a society.

IN RESPONSE TO… THE ORLANDO ATTACK, 2016

In the wake of the deadliest incident of violence ever committed against LGBTQ people in America, Theatre Renegade presented a night to come together and raise our voices; in memory, in protest, in solidarity.

The night featured a mixture of new pieces written in direct response to the tragedy, performances of pre-written texts and musical performances, all selected to honour and commemorate the victims at Pulse nightclub.

Ken’s TV is broken, but luckily the neighbours across the road are willing to open the window a crack so he, Luke, and Katy can watch the England/Iceland game from their roof in Widdrington Road. A far cry from the streets of Paris, the play explores tensions between Coventry’s past, present, and future, and how the country copes with the ghosts of its industrial cities.

Robert Louis Stevenson’s cult classic Jekyll and Hyde is reinterpreted in this modern adaptation set in an alternative London of the future, written by Jo Clifford and multi award-winning touring company Sell A Door.

A devoted man of science, Dr. Henry Jekyll is a high-profile cancer specialist, determined to find the chemical breakthrough that will solve mankind’s most challenging medical uncertainties.

Jekyll’s controversial research results in the creation of an unintentional strain of drug which entirely alters the patient’s personality. Making himself the subject of his own experimental treatments, Jekyll accidentally unleashes his ultimate inner demon in the process: the infamous Mr. Hyde.
